The US Civil War 1861-1865, claimed 500,000 dead. A couple years before that was the Crimean war, pretty huge conflict, a lot of powerful countries... about 300k dead.

Yet neither of those events, nor World wars 1 and 2 killed as large a PERCENTAGE of the world's population as the Timurid wars - Timur e Lang, Tamerlane killed 5.5% of the world's population (nearly wiping out the Ancient Church of the East, the Assyrian church)

The Mongol invasions also killed 5% of humanity.

None of the wars after 1815 had that level of murderousness

btw, that's one of Timur's infamous pyramid of skulls -- he left a lot of them around
