I don't know anything at all about Portaels, and this is the first of his I can recall posting--but I was struck, impacted, by it and really like it.
Now that I have your recommendation that he "was an excellent Biblical stories painter", I will look at his works on an art compendium site. If any other "lesser-known" artists also fit that description off the top of your head, I'd sure appreciate you mentioning them. I like to be thorough.
