A few weeks ago, my parish priest, who’s very solid, said something along the lines that you’re going to hear and read things from priests, bishops, cardinals and even the pope that are contrary to the Catholic faith, and when you do, you must ignore them. He admitted, it’s not the easiest thing in the world for a lay person to do, since the assumption is that clergy speak authoritatively, but he said we’re at a point where it must be done. The laity must ignore and reject clergy who teach contrary to the faith. He said, “If I tell you something that you know contradicts what you’ve read in the catechism, don’t listen to me.”
That sounds like one screwed up priest.
