Today is born of the Virgin him who holds all creation in the hollow of his hand. He whose essence is untouchable is wrapped in swaddling clothes as a babe. The God who from of old established the heavens lies in a manger. He who showered the people with manna in the wilderness, feeds on milk from the breasts. And the bridegroom of the Church calls the Magi. And the Son of the Virgin accepts gifts from them. We venerate thy Nativity, O Christ.
—Verses from the Royal Hours, Christmas Eve, Eastern Orthodox Church
Today, I am absolutely floored by the implications of the incarnation. It isn't a warm card or cute ornament. It isn't the thought of amassing gifts or even generously giving gifts. Today celebrates the most important (with His death & resurrection) even of all history. It dwarfs the origin of life and the big bang in significance. It makes everything else that we debate here shrivel in significance compared to God entering his own creation in fathomless love.
Merry Christmas! Blessed Nativity!
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Beautiful!
Eyes for many will go to different words. We like the idea of a baby in the manger. He is harmless and needs us.
How many eyes went to these words:
“him who holds all creation in the hollow of his hand. “
Blessed Merry Christmas, Jesus is BORN! GIVE HIM GLORY!
