How must God view our society today?

Yours is an important question. Today's society is no different in kind from any other era's. The details differ: widespread abortion, feeding Christians to lions, flaying prisoners alive, Inquisition torture and auto-da-fé, the Holocaust. Read Foxe's Book of Martyrs, if you have the stomach for it.

But every society is composed entirely of desperately depraved sinners, a minority of whom get redeemed and begin sanctification. What boggles my mind is how God views every single stinking thought, not to mention the diabolical deeds, of every putrid person. It must be like swimming in a cesspool for Him.

He knew that would be the case before He ever created the world--and went ahead anyway. He had a Plan....

Perhaps more responsive to your excellent question is the comparison Eric Metaxas drew between today's society and 18th Century England's in how to treat the poor (given during his 2012 National Prayer Breakfast address, based on his wonderful biography of William Wilberforce, Amazing Grace, released contemporaneously with the film).

In today's society we argue about whether helping the poor should be funded publicly or privately. In England and Europe in 1800, there was no thought given to helping them at all. It was Wilberforce who changed that by leading the fight to abolish slavery in the British Empire.
