Perhaps young people will now complain about the term ‘youths’ in crime reports.

The Sikhs are exactly right - because the use of “Asian” is a deliberate attempt by the British government and media to obscure the racial and religious background of the malefactors. Nobody is fooled except people outside Britain who might not be familiar with the usage.

In Britian, “Asian” usually means South Asian, not East Asian as it does in the US. Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and folks from Sri Lanka. There’s zero reason to smear the Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians from that part of the world for the crimes of Muslims.
