The absolute stunning genius of Raphael
Of all the Raphael images I've posted--must be a dozen by now--you're the first to comment on him. I'll simply note, there's a reason he's so famous.
It’s simply incredible that he was able to capture the pathos more convincingly in a fresco/mosaic than anyone else could do in oil. Also the Giuseppe Cades copy is the perfect foil, to highlight just how impossible it is for even an extraordinary artist to do what Raphael did.
Would you object if I get someone to put all of your collections up in a free blog in substack.com? I’m not sure if I could find someone to do it (and I don’t have the time to do it myself) but if you ok it, i’ll ask around with some of my computer literate friends.
