It also depends on how you define evolution. Do I believe God uses natural selection to preserve biological kinds in a volatile environment? Absolutely. Do I believe this is a result of random mutation? No way. All useful genetic information that exists or ever will exist has been there from the beginning.

And I, an old earth creationist, dont believe God used what some call Theistic Evolution. I believe the archaeological record has too many occurrences of new species and even new phyla appearing too suddenly for natural evolution (whether or not it was at Gods hand in the beginning). I believe theres a ton of evidence saying that God was involved in creating new species. (For reference look up Cambrian Explosion, where about half of all known phyla sprang up in the archaeological record about 500 million years ago, but did it in about a million years - way too suddenly for natural selection).
I didnt type this as a youre-wrong-Im-right kind of post. Just respectfully agreeing with your overall premise that we can be committed Bible believing Christians and disagree on things about what the details in Genesis 1 and 2 say.

I heard an amazing analogy many years ago. It goes like this: Suppose we landed on the moon (or some planet) and found a wristwatch lying there. Our scientists would say that some intelligent life form had obviously created it.
However, if that watch was found on the arm of a human being, those very same scientists would deny that an intelligent creator was involved!
