Closure of the Pantin mosque: "We are in the process of mixing up everything", say the faithful

Within 48 hours, following an order issued Monday evening by the prefect, the place of worship, considered by the authorities as a den of the "radical Islamist movement", will have to close its doors "for a period of six months ". Nadia, 46, considers the decision disproportionate. "I am against what happened with the teacher, but closing this mosque is a pity, Islam is against all violence," she said. "The student's parent did not send a message to go and kill people. This mosque and the people who frequent it have nothing to do with terrorism," said a young devotee, encountered near the mosque. "We are mixing everything up," he laments, annoyed.

The decision follows the dissemination of a video posted on social networks by the father of a 4th year student at the Bois d'Aulne college, in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine in the Yvelines, where Samuel Paty taught history and geography. In this video, the student's parent asserted that the teacher had shown "pornographic pictures" to his daughter on October 5 in class. It turns out that they were cartoons of Muhammad in a free speech class.

M'hammed Henniche, the manager of the Pantin mosque, relayed the sequence on the place of worship's Facebook page on October 9. The authorities blame the head of the mosque in particular for not removing or even moderating the address of the college. Hence the decision to close the place of worship. The preacher himself recognized Monday "a blunder" and wanted to explain.

"I do not approve of the first part (of the video) in which he talks about the cartoons, but the second part, when Muslims were pointed out in the classroom", scared many Muslims, fearing "the beginning of a new discrimination ", explained M'hammed Henniche, also secretary general of the Union of Muslim associations of Seine-Saint-Denis (UAM 93).

The three-page decree presents other arguments to justify the closure of the place of worship, pointing among other things to "links with Salafism" maintained by the mosque, its frequentation by "people involved in the jihadist movement" and the troubled personality of an imam, Ibrahim Doucouré. "Involved in the radical Islamist movement of Ile-de-France", trained for two years in a "fundamentalist institute" in Yemen, reports the decree, Mr. Doucouré also educated three of his children in an underground school, in Bobigny. This school, managed by the association "Learn and Understand", was closed on October 8 by the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis, denouncing an operation "outside the law and republican principles".

For the mayor of Pantin, Bertrand Kern, the management of the Pantin mosque "did a gigantic mischief that I condemn". The councilor fears, however, that she "throws shame on all the faithful", eve though "the vast majority" are "moderate". The temporary closure of this mosque is part of the counter-offensive launched by the Ministry of the Interior, which has promised "a war against the enemies of the Republic" and launched a series of operations targeting the Islamist movement, in the aftermath of the assassination of Samuel Paty, to which a national tribute will be paid on Wednesday. ATTENTAT - La mosquée de Pantin devra fermer ses portes mercredi soir et pour une durée de six mois. Les fidèles rencontrés ce mardi matin aux abords de la mosquée jugent la décision injuste et disproportionnée.

"J’ai les larmes aux yeux", se lamente une mère de famille, qui pratique depuis un an dans ce lieu de culte. "La mosquée de Pantin n’est pas fréquentée pas des extrémistes", assène-t-elle, masque sur le menton et coiffée d’un turban, à l'entrée du lieu de culte. Pour elle comme pour les 1.300 fidèles qui se rendent chaque semaine à la Grande Mosquée de Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis), c'est la consternation ce mardi matin. "Je viens ici pour prier depuis quatre ans. Je connais bien l’imam. C’est quelqu’un de bien. Il mettait les jeunes dans le droit chemin", soutient-elle, encore abasourdie par la nouvelle.

D’ici quarante-huit heures, suite à un arrêté délivré lundi soir par le préfet, le lieu de culte, considéré par les autorités comme un repaire de la "mouvance islamiste radicale", devra fermer ses portes "pour une durée de six mois". Nadia, 46 ans, juge la décision disproportionnée. "Je suis contre ce qui s’est passé avec le prof, mais fermer cette mosquée c’est dommage, l’islam est contre toutes les violences", souligne-t-elle. "Le parent d’élève n’a pas envoyé un message pour aller tuer des gens. Cette mosquée et les gens qui la fréquentent n'ont rien à voir avec le terrorisme", clame un jeune fidèle, rencontré aux abords de la mosquée. "On est en train de tout mélanger", déplore-t-il, agacé.

La décision fait suite à la diffusion d'une vidéo postée sur les réseaux sociaux par le père d’un élève de 4ème du collège du Bois d’Aulne, à Conflans-Sainte-Honorine dans les Yvelines, où Samuel Paty enseignait l’histoire et la géographie. Dans cette vidéo, le parent d’élève y assénait que le professeur avait montré des "images pornographiques" à sa fille le 5 octobre en classe. Il s’avère en réalité qu’il s’agissait de caricatures de Mahomet dans le cadre d’un cours consacré à la liberté d’expression.

M'hammed Henniche, le responsable de la mosquée de Pantin, a relayé la séquence sur la page Facebook du lieu de culte le 9 octobre dernier. Les autorités reprochent notamment au dirigeant de la mosquée de n’avoir pas supprimé ni même modéré l’adresse du collège. D'où la décision de fermer le lieu de culte. Le prédicateur a lui-même reconnu lundi "une maladresse" et a tenu à s'en expliquer.

"Je ne valide pas la première partie (de la vidéo) dans laquelle il parle des caricatures, mais la deuxième partie, quand les musulmans ont été pointés dans la classe", a fait "peur" à de nombreux musulmans, craignant "le début d'une nouvelle discrimination", a ainsi expliqué M'hammed Henniche, par ailleurs secrétaire général de l'Union des associations musulmanes de Seine-Saint-Denis (UAM 93).

Ibrahim Doucouré, un imam à la réputation sulfureuse

L’arrêté de trois pages présente d’autres arguments pour justifier la fermeture du lieu de culte, pointant entre autres des "liens avec le salafisme" qu'entretient la mosquée, sa fréquentation par "des personnes impliquées dans la mouvance djihadiste" et la personnalité trouble d'un imam, Ibrahim Doucouré. "Impliqué dans la mouvance islamiste radicale d’île-de-France", formé pendant deux ans dans un "institut fondamentaliste" au Yémen, rapporte l'arrêté, M. Doucouré a également scolarisé trois de ses enfants dans une école clandestine, à Bobigny. Cette école, pilotée par l'association "Apprendre et Comprendre", a été fermée le 8 octobre par la préfecture de Seine-Saint-Denis, dénonçant un fonctionnement "hors de la loi et des principes républicains".

Pour le maire de Pantin Bertrand Kern, la direction de la mosquée de Pantin "a fait une gigantesque bêtise que je condamne". L'édile craint toutefois qu'elle "jette l'opprobre sur tous les fidèles", alors que "l'immense majorité" sont "modérés". La fermeture temporaire de cette mosquée s'inscrit dans la contre-offensive lancée par le ministère de l'Intérieur, qui a promis "une guerre contre les ennemis de la République" et lancé une série d'opérations visant la mouvance islamiste, à la suite de l'assassinat de Samuel Paty, auquel un hommage national sera rendu mercredi. "Aucun élément ne m'a été communiqué jusqu'ici qui permettrait de dire que cette mosquée est contrôlée par l’islamisme", admet pourtant le maire de Pantin, soulignant qu'un "seul imam (M.
