I wonder why so many paintings depicting David as a red-head.

Must be a reason...

Great timing with this thread. Columbus Day.

Columbus (meaning "dove" same as the name Jonah, and he is also suspected of being a crypto-Jew) was famous for confusing The New World with India, so the people already living on the land were called Indians. Aka the "Red Man."

David was described as "admoni" - which could be red-haired and/or ruddy, robust, rosie-cheeked... I get the sense that they all apply as in David was "red-blooded", meaning the real deal, accept no substitutes.

There's a national parallel in the images and accounts of our beloved Father of our Country, George Washington. He is depicted as cherub-cheeked, with beautiful, compassionate eyes.

The Jews were expelled from Spain on the 9th of Av by the same king and queen who funded Columbus' voyage to the New World, which set sail the next day.

In the weirdest way, America and the indigenous tribes became equated with the Hodu (India) of the Book of Esther. But then PC wormed in, and it was in bad taste to ask what kind of Indian - "dot" or "feather". The American Indians became known as Native Americans.

But these "Native Americans" are still ruddy.

Sunflowers are native Americans, so it all comes around full circle! :)
