Although I had studied French and English in school, I was not very proficient in speaking those languages. Then I married an American who spoke a very good Italian. When we came to this Country, it was rather difficult for me to engage in conversation. Little by little, though, I became fluent and I knew I had mastered the language when I started thinking in English.

Visited Europe in 1996 and saw it then. Easily the greatest statue i’ve ever seen. The size surprises since it’s quite large. The Pieta might rival it but since it was damaged it’s kept distant from viewing and it’s smaller and life size.

I actually had some children in Kid's Church today . . . showed CBN's Superbook David and Goliath. It made for a good lesson. Their eyes got wide in the bear, lion and Goliath scenes. When I get back to using PowerPoint I'll revisit your posts for some pics in reviewing lessons.

I'd guess yours is pretty much the consensus view--I certainly agree, from afar.

I've not yet visited Europe--I'm saving that for the Millennium, LOL. When my parents went in the '70s I requested three souvenirs: an Eiffel Tower rivet, a Notre Dame Cathedral gargoyle, and the Pietá's brass nameplate. What I got was flecks of Tower paint.

Sounds interesting. Nothing beats wide-eyed children.

The funny thing is I was neutral before I saw it. I had seen the replica outside and debated whether to pay to see the original inside at The Academia. My guidebook said it was worth it though. Fortunately I decided to do so.

I had the advantage of reading about its creation in detail in The Agony and the Ecstasy before I ever saw a picture of it, which favorably predisposed me toward it. As you can see plainly above, I still am.
