It is such a basic human endeavor. Years ago I saw an anthropological documentary on TV about a jungle-dwelling, tribe in a rainforest of South America. They were naked except for rudimentary genital covers, and lived in grass tents. One scene was striking: a young father took a bunch of small kids, males and females, down to a stream, where he showed them how to make doll babies out of wet clay. Smiling and patting the kids, he modeled for them how to cuddle and rock their wet mud “babies.” This non-literate Indian tribe had a positive, natural understanding of their own survival.
