Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Twins come in all shapes and sizes. The biggest distinction is whether Twins are Fraternal or Identical. Fraternal Twins are the result of two separate eggs being fertilized and developing together in the womb. Identical Twins are the result of one egg being fertilized, and then splitting into two babies. Identical Twins have the same DNA and are usually so similar-looking that they can fool people. Fraternal Twins can be so diverse, even different sexes, so it's easier to tell them apart.

Since many of my students have been twins, I use this simple fact to teach about Major and Minor Scales. The Relative Major and Minor Scales have the same Key Signature (DNA) but just start in different places (birth order). The same notes are in each, they share the same chords, and are sometimes indistinguishable. The other kind of Major-Minor relationship is more like Fraternal Twins. They start and end on the same note (C Major and C Minor, for example), but do not have the same Key Signature (DNA) nor the same notes and chords. In BOTH instances, though, Major and Minor are two totally different MOODS, just as in the situation of Twins, whether they are Identical or Fraternal. They may share a birthday, parents, and even DNA, but everybody has their own unique SOUL.

I am going to venture a guess and say that Jacob and Esau were Fraternal, rather than Identical, Twins. Not only did they look different, act differently, and have different values, they even smelled different! Esau was a redhead, a solid, hairy, athletic man, and perhaps a wee bit on the dull side, while Jacob was smooth-skinned and lived by his wits. They must have been a handful as children, and managed to divide their parents against each other. It isn't till much later in life that they will actually be "Fraternal" with each other, once again.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!
