Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Genesis 15

The Lord’s Covenant With Abram

15 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:

“Do not be afraid, Abram.
    I am your shield,[a]
    your very great reward.[b]”

2 But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit[c] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”

4 Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring[d] be.”

6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

7 He also said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”

8 But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

9 So the Lord said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”

10 Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half. 11 Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. 13 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. 15 You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. 16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”

17 When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. 18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi[e] of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates— 19 the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, 20 Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, 21 Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Abba Father,
We Come before You in Prayer
We Know That You Are Omnipotent,
And Could Choose to Speak to us as an Earthquake
We Know That You Are Omnipresent,
And Could Speak to Us as a Mighty Wind.
We Know That You Are Omniscient,
And Could Speak to Us As a Raging Fire.
But Many Times,
You Speak to Us As A Small Still Voice,
A Gentle Whisper,We Must Actually LISTEN.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Sixteen of my motorcycle-riding years were in South Florida.

The cities in South Florida which are West of I95 were carved out of the Everglades. Vast networks of canals and ponds replaced the "Sea of Grass", and miles of housing complexes sprung up. In the past 50 years, the area has become so built up that it is hardly recognizable.

However, the forces of Nature are not so easily tamed.

One day, while riding to a lesson, I saw a large black mass blocking the street up ahead. The thing seemed to be moving! As I came closer to negotiate a curve around the object, I saw what it was...a huge flock of VULTURES munching away on a dead racoon. It was SO NASTY! Being a "City Girl", I had never seen such a thing in my whole life. In the City, Road-Kill just stayed where it was until the Sanitation Department picked it up.

Now there was a Landfill in Pompano that attracted these Buzzards. Unfortunately there was a "Active Adult (Senior Citizen) Community nearby, and the Buzzards liked to perch on the rooflines of the houses. The Seniors were very disturbed by the sight of these "monsters" and complained to the City. Of course, the City patiently explained that the Vultures were a very important part of the Ecosystem, and were NOT to be killed. Various non-violent means (smoke-bombs, loud music, bad noises, etc) were attempted, but the Vultures stayed. They were "God's Clean-Up Crew," and had every right to be there!

Now, I am telling this story because Abraham was tasked with a very hard way of showing his loyalty to God. The Covenant was to be sealed in blood, and Abraham was instructed to slay several animals and guard them against the scavengers until God took then up with fire. That must have been very difficult, as Vultures are not scared of smoke, loud music, bad noises, or even my Harley.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Amen. Interesting that Abram had to chase off the birds of prey from his sacrifice.

An analogy could be that of prayer.

Sometimes, when we pray, random thoughts seem to attack and distract us.

Perhaps, Abraham chasing away the Birds of “Prey” can be compared to chasing away interrupting thoughts that are preying upon us as we Pray.

A bad pun but an interesting thought.
