Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Genesis 3

Cain and his Family

17 Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.

19 Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes. 22 Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of[g] bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah.

23 Lamech said to his wives,

“Adah and Zillah, listen to me;
wives of Lamech, hear my words.
I have killed a man for wounding me,
a young man for injuring me.
24 If Cain is avenged seven times,
    then Lamech seventy-seven times.”

25 Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth,[h] saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” 26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.

At that time people began to call on[i] the name of the Lord.

This brief Passage shows us a division of labor, farmers, shepherds, craftsmen, and even the making of tools and weapons.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father Who Art in Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
We Come into your Presence,
Overcome With Awe,
For You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship.
You Alone Are the One True God of Abraham!

I call upon You, LORD, in my distress:
And You Answer me, and set me in a large place.
The LORD is on my side;
I will not fear:
what can man do unto me?

It is better to trust in the LORD
than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD
than to put confidence in princes.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I was born and raised a city girl. Meat came from the supermarket, and wildlife could be seen at the Franklin Park Zoo. The Rag Man, the Knife-Sharpening Man, and the Policeman were the only ones who had horses. Even on our yearly visits to the beautiful Oldham Pond in the near suburbs, my only exposure to chickens was the huge, stinky, chicken farm near the cranberry bogs, that we would run by as fast as we could.

Things are very different now. As I ride my bike around those same communities, I see fields of sheep and goats, horses, cows, and hand-made signs for fresh eggs and organic vegetables for sale. People hire goat-herders to rid their property of poison ivy (they LOVE it! Yum!), and two of my siblings have thriving chicken coops that always improving, due to the proliferation of "Chicken Chat" on Social Media. There are three Dairy Farms within a few miles of my suburban home. People are not going backward, they are merely re-introducing the two oldest professions into their urban setting, and enriching their own lives in the process.

Since there have been so many revisions to the traditional way of looking at archaeology, I don't know if this system of classifying civilization is still popular. Back in the mid-twentieth century, early man was classified in three Ages: The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, and The Iron Age, which indicated the technical development of the culture by its Metallurgy. Since I first devoured these writings half a century ago, the Stone Age has been divided up into Paleolithic (Old), Neolithic (New), and probably some other "lithics" that subdivide even these. I saw that a "Copper Age" has been added, and wouldn't be surprised if the Twentieth Century got subdivided into "The Steel Age" and "The Plastic Age". "Steampunk" is a fashion direction that takes its look from "The Steam Age", and the new Millennium has been called "The Internet Age". I grew up during "The Space Age", reached "The Age of Reason" somewhere around seven years old, and am now "Aging Gracefully", I Hope!

Yet, through all of these "Ages" two things have remained as a constant, the two oldest professions, Agriculture and Livestock. No matter how advanced we get into Technology, we still have to EAT!

Tubal-Cain is considered the "Father of Metallurgy". Therefore, I included this Passage from Genesis to show the relationship between the Bible and our own understanding of History. This little Passage shows the growth from Stone Age to Bronze Age, with Agriculture and Livestock Raising not even skipping a beat.
