That is what I heard. I do recall that because it struck me as an awful decision.
From what I can find (other than my memory): “In a new book based on interviews with a Spanish priest, Pope Francis says that homosexuality IN THE PRIESTHOOD is ‘something that worries me’ and a ‘very serious’ question. He remarks that gay priests who cannot maintain their vows of celibacy should leave the priesthood rather than live ‘double lives,’ advises against admitting gay men into seminaries if their homosexuality is ‘deep seated’ and suggests that a societal perception of homosexuality as ‘fashionable’ has permeated Catholic culture.”
And. . .
“The Pope touched on the topic of homosexuality, particularly when it comes to individuals with ‘deep-seated tendencies’ or who practice ‘homosexual acts’, yet who want to enter the seminary.
In these cases, ‘if you have even the slightest doubt it’s better not to let them enter,’ Francis said, according to Vatican Insider, because these acts or deep-seated tendencies can lead to scandals and can compromise the life of the seminary, as well as the man himself and his future priesthood.”
Basically, my reading of this is homosexuals were permitted to enter the priesthood unless they had deep-seated homosexual tendencies and engaged in homosexual acts, then they should not be admitted. What is deep-seated, I don’t know.
Cheers and thanks for your patience.
Thank you, sir.
After all these decades you haven't forgotten him!
