The COVID-19 crisis is giving many bishops and priests a pretext to impose Communion in the hand. But it is clear that the imposition is unlawful.

Things have improved a good deal since the 90’s in that way—and there is a need to not let things regress.

In our diocese, the Bishop has decreed that those receiving in the hand go first, the priest then will sanitize, and then those who receive on the tongue. At the weekday Mass, probably 60-80% continue to receive on the tongue (and kneeling). Attendance is often pushing the present legal capacity of 113.

Not bad for one of two parishes in a town of about 1200.

What the “bishop’s” letter ought to have read:

Dear Sir, in the Lord,

I am pleased to acknowledge receipt of the letter addressed to His Excellency Gerardo Melgar Viciosa, Bishop of Ciudad Real, Prior of the Military Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara and Montesa, dated July 29, in which you make known that you consider your rights as a member of the faithful of the Church to have been violated because you and your wife were denied communion on the lips in the Eucharist celebrated on July 26, 2020, at 10:30 am, in the Church of San Ignacio (Salesians) in Ciudad Real.

His Most Reverend Excellency has entrusted me with the task of expressing his apologies for such a situation, and has also communicated with the rector of that church so that something similar does not happen again, because although it is true that the health emergency in which we find ourselves makes it advisable that due precaution is taken to diminish the possibilities of spreading any contagiens, as a safety measure to avoid spreading the CCP Virus to the elderly and otherwise infirm, such parishioners must be protected by proper specific barriers for the time being.

That being said, be very certain that the Blessed Sacrament can be receive exclusively on the tongue while kneeling.

I take this opportunity to express to you that I have very recently had a revelation and have correspondingly repented of my cooperation in the new protestant-Jansenist-Masonic sect whose worship service is termed the Novus Ordo (New Order). I must adhere to the doctrine and rubrics of the Church as they were prior to the election of false pope John XXIII and prior to the Second Vatican Council which established the synthesis of all heresies, modernism, as a doctrine of the Church! It is impossible for a public heretic to be pope and that is what the men claiming the throne from John XXIII to this day have been. (Recall the words of our lord, Jesus Christ: You shall know them by their fruits.)

Thus, from this day forward I stand with true and traditional Catholics and with the Mass as it was in the time of Pope Pius XII instead of with those who have departed from the faith, as mentioned prior in this letter. Accordingly I advise you to join with me in faithfulness to Jesus Christ, His bride the Church, and the blessed virgin Mary.

Signed :

Juan Carlos Fernández de Simón Soriano

Chancellor-Secretary General of the Bishopric of Ciudad Real

Prot. No. 520/0262
