As far as I understand Pope Benedict XVI never did resign it was a hostile take over. He was talking about a completely different issue and they intentionally took his words out of context. He has been disputing it ever since. He even wears the pope robes whenever you see him.

Have you read his resignation statement? It’s pretty clear. He resigned just for the reasons he said, why read in conspiracies? Most people in their 80’s do need to retire. Extremely old people cannot handle a regular job, much less being pope.
