Maybe. Those speculations do not justify your presumptions about a great and holy man.
I agree that he’s a great and holy man, but at the beginning of his papacy he asked the faithful to pray for him that he shouldn’t flee for fear of the wolves. Eight years later, he fled. That’s on him. He’s a saintly man, but even the greatest saints, even the apostles, had moments of weakness. To ignore or excuse his weakness in 2013 and the disastrous consequences thereof does no one, including him, any favors.
