[Catholic Caucus] Minneapolis parish advertises ‘take-away’ Communion in plastic bags

Parishioners are to consume the Eucharist in their cars, according to the video.

Update July 20, 2020 6:09 p.m. EDT: Pax Christi parish deleted the second video mentioned in this article. LifeSiteNews saved a copy of it, which can be viewed here.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minneapolis, July 20, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — A Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has published a YouTube video instructing laity to collect Holy Communion from plastic bags at the back of the church and consume the hosts in their cars because of the coronavirus.

The video was produced by the Pax Christi parish in Eden Prairie, Minneapolis, and was highlighted last week on the blog of American priest Father John Zuhlsdorf.

The parish has now removed the video and Zuhlsdorf reports that a priest of the archdiocese has informed him that “this sacrilegious farce was shut down.”

But the video is still available to view online, as the Catholic website Complicit Clergy made a copy which includes contact details for concerned Catholics to contact Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Bernard A. Hebda.

“To minimize points of contact the ushers will dismiss you to receive Holy Communion at the rear of the worship space starting from the back of the church. In each section you will be directed to leave through the closest exit. The consecrated Communion hosts will be in individual packets on tables at the exit points. Take only one packet per person,” a video narrator instructed those planning to attend Mass at the parish.

“As you leave the worship space please do not linger around. Proceed directly to your vehicle and maintain a safe social distance of 6 to 10 feet keeping your mask on until you are in your car. Once you're in your vehicle you may consume the host,” the narrator concluded.

The parish has now released another video which appears to show people leaving the church with the “Communion bags,” continues to refer to “Communion tables” and says that “Communion distribution…will occur as you leave the worship space.”

On its website the Pax Christi parish also advertises a Tai Chi group which meets every Wednesday.

While many Catholic dioceses around the world have attempted to ban Communion on the tongue in response to the coronavirus crisis, this video is another example of some parishes adopting novel means of laity self-administering Communion.

In April several Catholic churches in Switzerland began offering pre-packaged consecrated hosts for the faithful to take and consume at home amid the prohibition of public Masses. The consecrated hosts, which, as Catholics believe, are the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, were put into small containers that look like a match box and are made out of paper. The official news website of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference reported about the practice in a favorable light, not asking any questions about its appropriateness.

In both instances, concerned faithful have pointed out the grave risk of particles of the Blessed Sacrament remaining on packages which are designed to be casually thrown away and of such parishes being targeted by those who wish to deliberately desecrate the Eucharist.

“Black mass loving satanists are going to have a field day!” one commenter posted at Zuhlsdorf’s blog post on the Minneapolis video.

Why not just buy the little two piece communion cups that have a wafer? Oh, I forgot...the wine. Probably do not come that way.

Yeah. And there will be some devil worshipers who take it away but don’t consume it. What they will do with it is what one would expect from devil worshipers.

The road to hell is paved with the bones of priests, with the skulls of bishops has their lamp posts!

Our Lord looks for one to comfort Him and He finds none.

The “worship space” shown in the video reveals one of the ugliest examples of modern church architecture I have ever seen; not only does it resemble a community center, I didn’t see anything resembling a sanctuary - disgraceful!
(Pray for Holy Mother Church)

“Once you’re in your vehicle you may consume the host.”

Note the use of the word “may”.

They may as well have said, Consume the host whenever you get around to it. No rush. Take the Living God for a nice ride around town first if you like. Whatever suits your fancy.

There is no God in that cracker. It is symbolic. 70% of Catholics believe that it is symbolic also.

I'll sit here and wait for you to prove that Christ doesn't exist in the Eucharist.

Until then I'll take his word for it.

If the Eucharist was fake, why do Satanist only steal concencrated hosts from Catholic Churches?

If it is fake, they could just order some wafers from Concordia Press and have all they want.

Also follow history back. The Catholic Church is the church Jesus created. Gave the keys to St. Peter. All other Christian churches are an offshoot of Roman Catholic.

Catholics believe that the Host is the true Body of Christ. I don’t know where you get your 70% number, but, for any good Catholic, this belief is central to our religion.

When we have Holy Communion at Mass, the priest and the Eucharistic ministers watch that each person consumes the host immediately.

The Host is always kept locked inside a tabernacle, or displayed inside a monstrance. I coordinate an Adoration Chapel, and the door to that Chapel is always locked. Every Adorer will protect that Host with their life if necessary.

I really resent your coarse and ignorant comment. I would never deliberately insult anyone’s religion, especially not here at FR.

"There is no God in that cracker. It is symbolic. 70% of Catholics believe that it is symbolic also."

And jesus was just kidding- psyche! - at the end of John 6...Ok..
News Flash ! 100% of Anti-Catholics and Jews pray that the Blessed Sacrament is only a symbol.. as well...

- The Early Church Believed It - Lived it ! From the Didache:
Do not let anyone eat or drink of your Eucharist except those who have been baptized in the name of the Lord. For the statement of the Lord applies here also: Do not give to dogs what is holy............(Unless it just a symbol)

If anyone had a chance of getting it right, it was the early church. From the BEGINNING..... Those guys were the ones who heard it straight from the source - around 2000 THOUsand years ago !
St. Ignatius of Antioch - Disciple of the Apostle John

They [the heretics] even absent themselves from the Eucharist and public prayers [cf. Acts 2:42], because they will not admit that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ which suffered for our sins and which the Father in his goodness afterwards raised up again.
Ignatius was the first bishop of Antioch - the city were Jesus’ followers were first called Christians - as he studied under the apostle John.

- The Jews Couldn’t Accept It - either !!!
Another thing: the “this is my body… this is my blood” passage we read in Luke, it isn’t the only time when Jesus talks about being the bread of life. Look up and read John 6:22-71 (link for your convenience). In it, Jesus has a lengthy discussion with the Jews in which he compares the manna the Israelites ate in the desert and the bread of eternal life that God offers today. The Jews are understandably very confused, but Jesus just keeps repeating the same thing over and over again. Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. – John 6:33 Jesus said to them, ‘Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.’ –John 6:53-56. In verse 66, it records that “many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.” Would they leave over a mere symbol? Seems doubtful. The Jewish people knew Jesus was being literal, even if they didn’t really understand it.

- Fast forward to ST. PAUL in 1 Corinthians, and you’ll find this strongly worded passage:

Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord… For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgement on himself. That is why many among you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number are dying. –1 Corinthians 11:27, 29-30

STILL think its a Symbol ? Since when do mere symbols come with death penalties? 70% of Catholics - mostly those who are just too busy to worship God in the Sacrifice of the Mass on Sunday--- are ALSO missing out on the most amazing gift Christ gave to us - Himself.
