The Church of Sweden, Europe's largest Lutheran denomination, is known today for its overtly liberal position in many theological and secular issues, such as the question of homosexuality, yet has been steadily losing 1-2 percent of its worshippers every year over the past decades.
For the first time in history, the number of female clergy in the Church of Sweden has surpassed that of their male counterparts, the church newspaper Kyrkans tidning reported.
The share of women is now up to 50.1 percent, or 1,533, compared to 49.9 percent men or 1,527, the employers's organisation Skao reported.
Among the deacons, however, the proportion is even more skewed, as wholly 89 percent are women. Among pastors, though, women still lag behind, at 37 percent.
According to former dean Karin Burstrand, the issue of gender equality is of utmost importance for the church's credibility in society.
Should the church's way of interpreting faith in relation to gender equality be completely different from society's, then the church would cease to be relevant, Burstrand told Kyrkans tidning.
The Church of Sweden is the country's national church and former state church. At roughly 5.8 million members, it is the largest Lutheran denomination in Europe and the third-largest in the world, trailing only those of Ethiopia and Tanzania.

more apostate social clubs that claim the name Lutheran. They wouldnt recognize the Augsburg confession. or book of Concord if they tripped over them let alone the Bible
And because of this I wouldn’t doubt if women out number men by a 2 to 1 in going to church, Most men don’t want to go see women preachers.
Yup
It depends on what they look like. In other words if Laz goes, I would go.
Easier to get laid?
Yet should be replaced by aiding a.
Yes. I lived in New York City for several months in 1982, in Battery Park-several of my friends who are very conservative went to every feminist rally or NOW meeting they could find, for the reason you asked.
thanks bud. movin’ there tomorrow
This was inevitable. When women join the clergy or girls become altar boys where these had been mens’ duties they transform church positions into women’s preserves because the men conclude that church is “womens work” and among men only homosexuals are any longer attracted to the jobs. When the clergy becomes finally largely female the men stay home and let the wives take care of the spiritual side of the family.
Atheists who enjoy getting together on the occasional Sunday morning.
Have had 4 women pastors, all liberals.
This is why American Catholicism has few males even participating anymore. When the parish “concerns” reflect the secular agenda of the female activists running the parish, there is nothing spiritual left.
The Great Falling Away.
Women run everything in Sweden, that’s why it is all messed up.
The change was stark and swift when altar girls were allowed. Boys still participate but less willingly and drop it as soon as their families will permit. Altar service was something that girls do. The boys don’t play with dolls either.
That was just a baby step towards a female priesthood - something incompatible with Scripture. Feminists can’t accuse Jesus of sexism when discussing His choice of 12 men, and even the feeble attempt to explain it away as “the culture at the time” is ridiculous; He was killed for upending the “culture of the time”.
I see attempts to include females like that as acceptance that most will never bear children (a gift God gave them but not men); the liberal young women of today will be the ageing spinsters of tomorrow, cursing the old-fashioned foreigners we’ve imported to replace the children they’ll never have.
Happening here as well; a lot of civic groups disappear when they just become the womens auxiliary (as the men focus on providing for families - or themselves). Boy Scouts allowing girls will just be one of the later to disappear.
