I have only one quibble with this excellent essay. It's seems that his definition of a family is " a father a mother and children". This is a mistake. A family is created with the vows of marriage. Once Eve was created Adam existed in a family. It was the original order created before the fall. Children who come later are born into a family. The inability to recognize families is one of the great disabilities of our time.

Fair point, but of course the marriage is ordered toward children and has them as its proper end, without which it couldn’t even exist.
