Right, you believe the opposite of what I do.
No, see, you’re the perfect example of “when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” Because you have a believing mind, you cannot conceive of a lack of belief. So you keep trying to re-cast everything as a belief. If I don’t believe THIS, I must believe THAT. Sort of like the type who says, “Even not having an agenda is having an agenda,” or “Even not saying anything is saying something.” This is the type that only understands things in a certain way, and seeks to shoehorn everyone else into a construct that they can understand.
And of course hating God or not liking His rules does not make them an atheist. They believe alright they just dont like it
If you don’t believe it is true, you are an atheist.
If a friend tells me that he went 140 MPH in his Plymouth and I don’t believe it, that doesn’t mean I believe it is false. It means I don’t have compelling information to believe it to be true. I simply “don’t believe it”.
However, if another friend brings me video footage of the event where the claim is made, and the highest speed is 120, I now Believe the claim to be false, and it is based on knowledge.
But this semantic game gets us nowhere. An atheist believes there is no god but himself. That is what he believes. A Christian believes there IS a creator/God. An Agnostic believes neither. He’s neutral.
IOW, an atheist holds to a belief in something else and the two beliefs are mutually exclusive. An agnostic simply doesn’t believe. i.e. he’s not convinced. The two are not the same. The distinction is important.
What you say is true, but she still calls herself an atheist and will NEVER admit that she believes, even if she hates Him.
You may believe what you said is true.
But you pose beliefs in your posts. For example, you believe everyone is born an atheist.
No, that is what YOU believe about atheists.
However, if another friend brings me video footage of the event where the claim is made, and the highest speed is 120, I now Believe the claim to be false, and it is based on knowledge.
I thought you were the one who said we don't "really know" anything. In fact, since we can't really know anything, you can't really know what an atheist "believes."
The definition of an atheist is someone who does not believe in gods. Babies don't have the capacity or the background knowledge, therefore they cannot believe. This is simply an observation of a fact. You are re-positing everything as a "belief" because, as I said, all you have is that hammer.
I thought you were the one who said we don’t “really know” anything.
But that is about belief based on evidence, not knowledge.
The video was doctored. The car really DID go 140. The guy didn’t know. He just BELIEVED because of the preponderance of evidence as presented to him.
I’m really trying to point out that not believing something is true is different from believing it is false.. They are not the same thing.
Yes, exactly. That's why atheists resist your semantic game of trying to restate our lack of belief as a positive belief. Thank you.
Do you even believe what you are saying?
I don’t need to believe something if I know it. I know the definition of atheism, and believers’ attempts to re-cast it as something else has no more influence on me than leftists saying “even being colorblind is being racist!”
And how do you know that what you know is true?
For instance, your definition of atheism is incomplete. Atheism is also described as a strong disbelief in God, according to Mirriam-Webster.
Mirriam-Webster has also updated their definition of racism.
My prayers for your sister that she will put aside her anger and be reconciled to her Creator and her family
