Is There Actually Any Such Thing As An Atheist? No!
This particular Opening Post is addressed primarily to Christians.
Of course Atheists are welcome to comment.
I am well aware that a significant number of people claim to be atheists.
There are many people posting on Forums in Social Media on the Internet claiming to be atheists.
But that does not mean they actually ARE atheists.
My view is that ALL men, in their secret hearts and minds, KNOW there is a God.
Humans can, and do, deceive themselves into believing that which is not really true.
So?
So we can NOT know for certain that there is actually any such thing as an atheist.
Just because some men say they lack belief in the existence of God does not mean they actually DO lack belief in the existence of God.
The truth is they DO have knowledge of God.
They deliberately suppress that knowledge. {Romans 1:18}
Humans CAN deceive themselves.
And humans often DO deceive themselves.
Most important of all is what does the Bible say about this issue?
On Christian lights, God says there is no such thing as an atheist.
Again, Romans 1:18 says that some humans "suppress the truth" about the knowledge of God.
Atheists are part of humanity, so Romans 1:18 applies to them also.
Romans 1:19-20 says "since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."
Note the particulars in Romans 1:19-20
{1) There is information that can be known about God.
{2} This information is plain to men.
{3} God Himself has made it plain to them.
{4} It has been plain to them since the creation of the world.
{5} God's eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen.
{6} All this in understood from what God created.
{7} Therefore men are without excuse {for not believing in God.}
Romans 1:19-20 is the germ principle of the Teleological Argument
for the existence of God -- the argument from the Intelligent Design of the Earth and the Universe.
So?
So a question for we Christians:
In light of Romans 1:19-20 and Romans 1:18 is there any such thing as an atheist?
I say No! I believe that ALL men KNOW there is a God.
I believe so-called "atheism" is a pseudo-intellectual ploy to "suppress the truth" about the knowledge of God. {See Romans 1:18}
What say you?

There is no such thing as an atheist. A best, there are only sloppy agnostics.
In the land before time, even Lucifer got all filled with himself and tried to tear down the order established... there is nothing new under the sun, what has been will be again...so penned Solomon.
I’ll chime in and just say that its important to clarify what the labels imply. An Atheist claims proof that there is no God. An Agnostic claims proof that the existence of a God cannot be sufficiently proven or disproved. A Believer claims proof that there is a God.
C.S. Lewis was an Atheist until he focused his brilliant mind to prove his position. Instead he proved to himself that God clearly must exist. Read his book Mere Christianity at least through the part where he discusses Human Law and you will see as well that there is no valid argument against Gods existence and that God must exist.
I’ll also say that it takes an uncommonly driven Atheist to read any book concerning Christianity. Almost all Atheists are too prideful and egotistical to pick up a book like Mere Christianity lest they prove to themselves that they’ve been wrong the whole time.
I’ve never met a real atheist. A lot of people claim to be, but if they are willing to engage you on the subject it always turns out they are agnostic.
A real atheist is pretty dangerous, especially if they are a psychopath or sociopath.
No. You are making up a definition just like a Leftist would. An atheist is simply someone who does not believe in any gods. Just as you do not believe in Greek gods, Roman gods, Native American gods, or any gods of any other culture other than the Hebrew god, neither do atheists. They simply add the Hebrew god to the same list you don't believe in.
Everyone believes in god. And the god of a true atheist is himself.
You’re gonna have to serve somebody.
Atheism is a religion.
I agree. To me, most people who claim to be “atheist” are just using the label as a way to keep others away. Implied in the term “atheist” is the idea that this person has done significant personal study to come to the conclusion that there is no God. Most “atheists” have done no such thing. They instead use the label as a convenient wedge to prevent further discussion.

I’m a Christian and agnostic on the existence of other “gods”. After all, our God is greater than all others because he is the creator. Being greater than something else actually requires that something else to exist. And the bible says it does in Psalm 82.
Correct
Exactly. ;)
I’m not a Dylan fan, but that song nails it.
Technically correct, but ineffective as a means of influence.
There are no “Other” Gods either, and yet they are still worshiped as though they do exist.
Understanding WHY a person CHOOSES atheism I think is more important to study.
By definition an Atheist believes something without a doubt
and that something they believe in is in effect there “god”..

Zero is still a number
I don’t know. Democrat voters may well be THAT stupid.
No, a-theism is just the lack of belief in gods, just as a-sexuality is a lack of sexuality, a-tonal means lack of specific musical key or mode, a-gnostic means without knowledge, and so on. We are all born atheists.
As for WHY a person chooses atheism, I have personal knowledge.
Take my sister...please *rim shot*
After she left home, she kinda hemmed and hawed about whether or not she believed. She used to call herself an agnostic. As the years went by, and she went through some admittedly hard things (including an abusive husband), her opinions changed. She eventually married a guy who is an atheist (who has treated her quite well for over 15 years now). She started gaining friends who Normals see as degenerate...people who were homosexuals, into polyamory, and the like. Because Christians stand in opposition to these people, she chose to turn towards her friends and turn away from G-d and from those who worship Him.
She doesn’t call herself an atheist because she doesn’t believe (although that’s what she’ll tell you..,,”Science! is all”). She calls herself an atheist because she hates G-d because she views Him as ‘mean’ and ‘evil’ because of His laws and statutes that are in direct opposition to what her friends believe and live out. And, consequently, she also hates those who follow Him and anything they believe in (political, social, economical, etc.)
She only tolerates me because I am her brother, and I treat her with civility. I am the only link she has to her family anymore as she has not spoken to our dad for over 10 years (an entirely different story). I pray for her that she’d have her eyes opened and would turn to Yeshua for forgiveness.
But, if things keep going the way they are, I may lose any contact with her completely before the November elections. And when she brands you as an enemy, she does not forgive, so there’s no going back.
“The most preposterous notion that H. Sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all of history.”
Heinlein nails it completely in my opinion.
