The idols of Mary, the kneeling before these idols and praying to the image it represents, the candles lit in her honor, the prayers to Mary, etc, etc, etc....all say the Roman catholic worships Mary.

I can’t say I understand votive candles, but I see nothing wrong with them. They’re optional.
