Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil (Proverbs 4:26-27 KJV).
Very simply, the passage says to get wisdom. It is amazing how dumb Christians can be. Christians that get mad at something or someone in their church and then quit going and struggle with their life. They ask, How can I get the victory? Well, the answer is that they will never get the victory until they get back into church and get faithful to the Lord and to His Word. There is only one way to get victoryand that is to get in all the way.
People say, Well, Ill just do it my way. Go right on ahead. Your way wont work. Get wisdom. Get understanding (vs. 4). Forget it not (vs. 5). Forsake her not (vs. 6). People just think they can outsmart Godbut sin is too powerful. Enter not in the path of the wicked (vs. 14). Stay out of places that will get you in trouble. Take fast hold of instruction (vs. 13). The way of the wicked is as darkness, they know not at what they stumble (vs. 19). They dont have an idea that they are even going to stumble.
My son, attend to my words (vs. 20), for they are life unto those that find them (vs. 22). Keep thy heart (vs. 23) for out of it are the issues of life. Keep your heart.
- The first thing you need to do with your heart is to keep it clean. And purify it by faith (Acts 15:9). Keep it clean by confessing your sins. - Secondly, fill the heart with the Word of God, and thirdly, cultivate love for God and godly things.
You might say, Well, I dont like to do right. First of all, clean out all the junk; secondly, get in the Word of God and stay in it and stay on your knees until you start wanting to do right. Sin hardens the heart and makes it tough to come back. It is amazing how indifferent sin can make a man toward the truth. People just get so full of the world, and so full of the things of the world, that they get to where they dont even want to go to church any more. But youll never get the victory again until you get your heart right with God. Paul talks about getting entangled in the world and they dont want to do right. Their spiritual nature has been so muzzled that they just dont have any desire to live spiritual lives.
Cultivate a love for God: The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Romans 5:5).
