PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 5/1/2020

“Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit” (Proverbs 1:12 KJV).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit” (Proverbs 1:12 KJV).

There are people out there that would not hesitate to take your entire livelihood. They wouldn’t leave you a penny, as many a senior citizen has discovered after their life savings has been whisked away by some kind of scam, leaving them penniless and destitute—when their golden years should have been one of comfort and ease.

There are 13 words in verse 13, “We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil,” a fool’s paradise—the killer’s optimism—we can get something for nothing. Every guilty man that is in prison tonight thought that crime really did pay.

“Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse” (Proverbs 1:14 KJV). That is ecumenicalism. Just like in Genesis chapter 6 with Nimrod, a united front, a cooperative program.

“My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path” (Proverbs 1:15 KJV). As in Psalm chapter 1, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful” (verse 1 KJV). Just stay away from them. Just get away from them altogether.

“. . . refrain thy foot from their path,” Some Christians honestly think that they can run around with lost people, and fool around with lost people, and not have it rub off on them. Even a fool knows that you can’t walk around in a coal mine without getting dirty. When you fool around with lost people, there is no fellowship, except on their level. They cannot come up to a believer’s spiritual level—because they do not understand it—so there is only one level of fellowship, the worlds. That means that you lose, and they win.

You can work for them (we really don’t have much choice in that), you can try to win them to Christ—you can try to get them up to your level by getting them saved—other than that, there is no society, no fellowship, no communion—nothing!

If you fool around with them, sooner or later they’ll get you. They’ll entice you. It’ll happen, “For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood” (Proverbs 1:16 KJV). That is just their nature to do that. The lost are bent toward evil, they have a wicked, ungodly way about them. They know not the way of righteousness. There is no way in their worldly state that they can come up to righteousness.

Some people say, “Well, he is a good man.” He is not a good man! “There is none righteous, no, not one!” “They are all together gone out of the way,” “All their righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” There is nothing good about an unsaved man, spiritually speaking.

Man, in his best state, is altogether vanity. Now how are you going to get any good out of that?

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
