PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 4/28/2020
King James Bible | 4/28/2020 | pilgrimsprogress

“As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days” (Proverbs 28:15).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days” (Proverbs 28:15).

The lion is a type of the Devil (I Peter 5:8), the bear is mentioned in Daniel 7:5 as one of the Gentile kingdoms. They get together; the bear and the lion get together in the person of the leopard in Revelation 13:2. The Antichrist, like a leopard has the mouth of a lion, and the feet of a bear.

“As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.” He will devour them and tear them up.

“As the prince that wanteth understanding,” he doesn’t understand it, he wants it. He is without it, “is also a great oppressor,” like the Antichrist. Satan is a Prince in Ephesians 2:2, “the prince of the power of the air,” and the Antichrist is a Prince in Daniel 9:26, “the prince that shall come.”

“The prince that wanteth understanding is also great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.” The problem with the devil is that he wants, and he wants, he’s gotta have and gotta have. He that hates that shall prolong his days. I guess if you don't want anything; you don't lie to get it, you don’t cheat to get it, you don’t steal to get it, or kill to get it, you can’t fall into Satan’s trap through covetousness. As a result, you live much longer.

Authority or power must not be used to hurt the poor. God ordained offices of authority to protect the helpless or weak. When civil rulers oppress the poor, they are like wild and ravaging beasts. They do great damage by cruel and insensitive abuse of power. Men lock dangerous and wild beasts in zoos, and rulers like them should be taken from office.

Leaders and rulers that do not take care of the poor are wicked. A great duty of authority and rule is to conscientiously provide for those unable to defend or help themselves. When a wicked man gets into power and oppresses the poor under his rule, it is a frightening evil. But there is a God in heaven, Who will punish such rulers.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
