“My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me . . . He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him” (Proverbs 27:11, 14).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me . . . He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him” (Proverbs 27:11, 14).

“My son,” here's a father to his son, “be wise.” That's what every father wants his son or daughter to be. “My son, be wise and make my heart glad.” So, a good kid is a comfort to a parent.

Secondly, “that I may answer him that reproacheth me,” People reproach you and say, “Well, you're stupid, you’re dumb.” Well, if your child is wise, what could you say? “Yeah, well you're wrong. You may think I’m stupid, but I've raised a smart kid.” In other words, not only is a child a comfort to you to give you a glad heart, but he's also a credit to you.

Do you know what they said about Jesus Christ? They said, “He's a devil.” They said that He was a fake and a phony. Do you know what Jesus Christ said? He said, “wisdom is justified of her children.” You’ll find that in Matthew 11:19, He said, “My children are wise because I taught them.” He said, “You may not think I'm wise, but my children justify me.” He said “They’re good, they’re righteous, they’re wise. They know what's right. Matthew 11:19.

Two things there. A child is a comfort to the parent, and a credit to the parent. People may reproach you. You can answer them, “I must not be too dumb, my child is doing pretty good.” You know them by their fruits.

“He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.”

Why does his friend get mad? It is said the wrong way at the wrong time. It's not really real. It's forced, you know, there's an example of this in First Samuel 15:13.

“And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD” (1 Samuel 15:13).

King Saul says, “Bless you!” You know he didn't mean it. Why, he didn’t listen to Samuel for five minutes, otherwise he would have obeyed him. Samuel had just told him earlier to kill the enemy of God’s people—man, woman, and child. Saul didn’t pay any attention to Samuel at all. He wasn’t blessing him. This is nothing but false piety. It is flattery that is not appreciated.

That loud voice, you can get that thing connected with a demon in Mark chapter 5. Boisterous, trying to get everybody’s attention. You need to watch that.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
