“Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit” (Proverbs 26:4-5).

“Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit” (Proverbs 26:4-5).

Even among Christians now, it's becoming less and less acceptable to speak out against gross immorality. What would happen these days, if you stood up and rebuked somebody for being an adulterer? In some crowds, even in a Bible-believing church, there'd be plenty of “Christians” that would stand and say that you are just being judgmental.

Now, we don’t need to get into some public debate about some things. For the most part, it would be a waste of time. More than likely you would wind up answering a fool in his folly. But there does come a point where you have to take a stand as a Christian; as an ambassador for Jesus Christ, who is called to strive for the truth of the Gospel. This is not necessarily limited to only the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ but also the whole counsel of God to every creature.

We must stand up and say that sodomy is wrong; that adultery is wrong, that lewdness of any kind is lewdness, and it is wrong. We must not feint in the day of adversity to proclaim that it is not acceptable for people to shack up. If we can’t do that, what good are we? Where is the salt? Where is the light?

Sometimes it is best not to speak, other times it is. If we won't answer when it is required of us, if no light is shed on the cockroaches, they are never driven back into the darkness where they belong. If we are not careful, we may find ourselves unwilling to speak at all, unwilling to turn the light on in the kitchen, lest we see the cockroaches, and we don't want to disturb them. And the cockroaches become so bold as to raise their families right in front of us, like the way the sodomite crowd is flaunting their perversions right in front of us, and jeering.

Fools need to be answered somewhere along the way. That fool may be a professor with two doctorates, and he just may need to be reminded that there's a place that burns hot called hell, and then a bunch of people are going there, because he's not going to hear it where he holds his tenure.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
