Pastors Sue for Sunday Services

Protestants protest California quarantine

Protestant pastors in the Golden State are suing Catholic Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow public worship despite the Wuhan virus lockdown.

The suit comes after one of the pastors was slapped with a $1,000 fine for leading a service on Palm Sunday in violation of the statewide stay-at-home order.

The Center for American Liberty — a nonprofit based in California — filed the lawsuit earlier this week.

Harmeet Dhillon, the center's chief executive, told the Associated Press, "If a Californian is able to go to Costco or the local marijuana shop or liquor store and buy goods in a responsible, socially distanced manner, then he or she must be allowed to practice their faith using the same precautions."

Also this week, U.S. Attorney General William Barr said the pandemic must not lead to an infringement on religious liberty.

He affirmed in a statement Tuesday, "Religious institutions must not be singled out for special burdens."

For America's Catholics, every single diocese has shut down public Masses for fear of spreading the virus.

They should be able to hold church services indoors for shorter periods time.. Or outside for as long as they want.

“They should be able to hold church services indoors for shorter periods time.. Or outside for as long as they want.”

Forget the time limits. Let the priests, pastors, rabbi’s conduct their services as per their calendars going back to maybe a couple of thousand years.

No one will be forcing us to attend a religious service, no one should have a timer to tell us when our service is over.

This country is founded on liberty. Politicians, bureaucrats, judges, educators, doctors, and all the others who find it necessary to control “the people” need to be put in irons.
I grow increasingly angry about this violation of our most basic rights as citizens. It is my choice to work and risk my health doing so, not the President’s.
This has gone on too long and must be ended. The cure is demonstrably worse than the disease.
Trump is enjoying this a bit too much. I fear it is making him mad.

I live in TN and we have not missed a single Sunday worshipping the Lord. We have take proper precautions. Our local sheriff said he would NOT break up any church worshipping. And I know of a number of larger congregations who are doing imaginative things to practice social distancing and still come together to worship. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”
