Virginia Governor Makes Attending Church a Criminal Offense Amid Coronavirus

Both of Virginia’s Catholic dioceses have already suspended the public celebration of Mass in response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, and parishes are instructed to allow no more than 10 worshippers in the church at one time.

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia governor Ralph Northam has made it a criminal offense to attend church services of more than 10 people. An executive order went into effect in the commonwealth on Tuesday, March 24, making any non-essential gatherings a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail or a fine of $2,500.

Executive Order 53 states “All gatherings of more than 10 people are banned statewide, beginning at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. This does not include gatherings that involve the provision of health care or medical services, access to essential services for low-income residents, such as food banks; operations of the media; law enforcement agencies; or operations of government.”

The executive order expires at 11:59 p.m. on April 23, 2020, and is subject to change at any time in response to ongoing concerns for public health during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the order, democratic Governor Northam ordered all restaurants, breweries, food courts, farmers markets, and bars to close to the public, and shift to delivery and takeout only. Only retail businesses deemed “essential” were permitted to remain open.

Essential businesses include grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, medical supply stores, gas stations, pet stores, laundromats, and liquor stores.

Just out of curiosity, do any Freepers here have or know anyone who has this coronavirus? I live in New York, the most infected state and I don’t know anybody who has it.

Liquor store?!

Oh, and don’t forget abortuaries and pot retailers.

So have staggered worship services, or at least communion, and stay six feet apart.

There are ways to BE the church. Underground churches around the world have been doing something like this for years.

Although I detest this governor and what he stands for, the title of this article is misleading.

He is banning gatherings of 10 or more people, not only church services. I suppose that church meetings of 9 or less would be okay.

The governor is also banning other things in his state, such as consuming food and drink at restaurants and bars. It's take-out only in Virginia.

Our assistant pastor’s dad who lives NYC has it. He has compromised health and will most likely die from it. They will not give him a ventilator.

They took him away in an ambulance to the hospital a day or two ago and that was the last they will see of him this side of eternity. (Unless he makes a miraculous recovery)

I’d like to talk to them, this thing just doesn’t smell right with me. I’m suspecting that what is the flu is being classified as the coronavirus solely for political purposes. Yes people have died, but people die all the time from the flu and we don’t have this kind of panic. I think it was Ann Coulter today who said 23,000 people so far have died from the flu this season as compared to what they say is 930 from the “coronavirus”. Think of those numbers. If 23,000 have died from the flu, then a hell of a lot more must have the flu yet it is rarely mentioned by the media nor do we have this panic over it.

Did they say he had pneumonia or any infection of the lungs? That’s outrageous no ventilators. There is something very fishy about all this. More people die from the flu and pneumonia than ever died from this “coronavirus” yet we never had a problem with hospitals being overrun and running out of ventilators. 50 to 60,000 die every year in the USA from pneumonia. Compare that to the 930 from “coronavirus” yet we never read about ventilators being in short supply for pneumonia patients. I feel really bad about your pastors dad, I wonder if maybe your church could chip in and buy him a ventilator?

This is for Christian Churches only.

He’s a coward to confront the Islam groups that put him in office and control 2 counties in Northern Virginia.

Those are his people. Not the taxpayers.

He has an excuse to wield power over Christian beliefs using the virus as an excuse.

He doesn’t do a thing without consulting with Terry McCauliffe who still runs the state.

I know the dad has underlying health issues, diabetes for one.

It is NYC. I do not think they would give him one even if we paid for it. They are not giving ventilators to those who are assumed will not make it and to those who they know have Covid19, but are not having breathing issues. The dad is in the former category.
