Do you think their prayers were “vain repetitions”? I don’t think they chant or repeat any particular denomination’s canned prayers. From the times I’ve heard bits Pence’s prayer meetings, the prayers are from the heart and specific to the time and to certain events, etc.

Not at all. What they were doing was not rote, repetitive prayer.
