The verse before, 2 Timothy 1:6, is equally as important, but overlooked
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
Yes...we have been GIVEN a gift.
It is our responsibility to exercise that gift, fan the flames of that gift.
Otherwise, the gift lays dormant and just smokes or smolders, no matter how often we quote the verse.
