Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 98

Psalm 98

A psalm.

1 Sing to the Lord a new song,
    for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
2 The Lord has made his salvation known
    and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love
    and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
    the salvation of our God.

4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
    burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the Lord with the harp,
    with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
    shout for joy before the Lord, the King.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
    let the mountains sing together for joy;
9 let them sing before the Lord,
    for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
    and the peoples with equity.

Our Father in Heaven
Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
El Shaddai,
The All-Sufficient One!

Oh, Holy, Holy, Holy are You,
LORD, God of Power and Might!
May You Always be The Provider
and Banner For Your People.
May Your Children never be ashamed
or afraid to Lift Your Banner High!
May Your Name Always be Before them in battle and never be profaned!

Dear Father, Your Word Gives Us Courage Daily.
Your Psalms Give Us Joy.
The Joy of the LORD is Our Strength.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Where do I begin with this perfect little psalm? It is compact, concise, orderly and symmetrical, but at the same time, builds up and explodes like a supernova.

Let's start with its structure. There are three equal stanzas of three verses each. The entire Psalm urges progressively wider circles of Worship of The One True God:

1. Worship in the Temple
2. Worship from all the Peoples of the Earth
3. The Worship of ALL CREATION.

Although the Stanzas support each other, they can also stand alone.

Stanza 1...

1 Sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
2 The Lord has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.

...is a revelation of God's Righteousness, extending His Salvation not only to His Chosen people, but to all the Nations, to the very ends of the earth. This is positively revolutionary in the Ancient World. It also is paced in the Past Tense.

Stanza 2...

4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
shout for joy before the Lord, the King.

...is in the PRESENT Tense, exhorting all of us to make music before the Lord as our worship. Lots of musical instruments are mentioned as well as the Voice. We are exhorted to Sing, Sing, and Sing!

Now, let's look at Stanza 3, which brings all of Creation into this amazing symphony of Praise.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
let the mountains sing together for joy;
9 let them sing before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity.

There is also a FUTURE Event clearly noted in this Stanza, the Coming Of God as Judge.

So, we have these "Three's":

Three Stanzas

Three Verses in Each Stanza

Three levels of Worship:
1. The Temple
2. All the Peoples of the Earth
3. All Creation.

The Three Tenses:
1.Past
2. Present,
3. and Future

Three Musical Instruments besides Singing:
1. Harp
2. Trumpet
3. Ram's Horn

Three awesome parts of Nature:
1. The Seas
2. The Rivers
3. The Mountains

Three Attributes of God:
1. Love
2. Faithfulness
3. Righteousness

Three Forms of Worship:
1. Shout
2. Play Instruments
3. Sing

And, finally, Three Gifts from God:
1. Salvation
2. Justice
3. Equity (Truth)

The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
