Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 95

Psalm 96

1 Sing to the Lord a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
    proclaim his salvation day after day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

4 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.
6 Splendor and majesty are before him;
    strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    bring an offering and come into his courts.
9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness;
    tremble before him, all the earth.
10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
    The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved;
    he will judge the peoples with equity.

11 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
    let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
12 Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
    let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
13 Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,
    he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
We Come into Your Glorious Presence With Singing,
And into Your Courts With Praise!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The Most High,
The Great I AM.
God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob,
We Worship You and You Alone,
Creator of All That Is,
And Sovereign LORD of All Nature,
Which is Under Your Control at All Times.
How conceited we humans can be,
Thinking that we somehow can control the mighty forces
That are Yours and Yours Alone!
What hubris, to think that somehow we are little gods
who can influence and change the course of climate,
history,
or Your Will!

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

There is a weird little store near my home. From the outside, it looks like it has been displaced from Southern California. Surfing stickers, graffiti, tribal images, and skateboard-culture dominate the facade. It is, after all, a skate store, and services the youth of the community who need parts, repairs, and equipment for the sport of skateboarding. One would think that a Christian-widowed-senior-citizen-conservative like me would give the place a wide berth. After all, I have no piercings or tats, and am 3X the age of their normal customer.

But, of course, I went in and checked it out.

The person behind the counter greeted me warmly, and when I told him I was a musician, he sent me down a flight of graffiti-covered stairs to the basement which was full of VINYL! Woo Hoo! Everything from Beethoven to the Beatles, and rack after rack of Classic Rock records from 99cents to $50.00. Posters that I remembered from my childhood festooned the walls, old oriental rugs on the floor cushioned my steps, and Joni Mitchell was playing softly on the house system. This was going to be fun!

A young mother and her little five-year-old boy were also shopping in this very cool basement. He sat on a high stool in the corner, wearing headphones, and was deftly taking an album out of its sleeve, handling carefully by the edges. He placed the needle on the record and a big smile swept over his face.

"Mommy! This is AWESOME!" he gushed.

He was listening to a recording of "The Nutcracker".

I went over to the mother and told her what a beautiful boy she had, and made some suggestions. I remember loving "Peter and the Wolf" when I was that age, and also recommended Beethoven's 6th Symphony because of its amazing imagery of Nature. I ended up with an armload of vinyl from the $3.00 bin, and then became very conversant with a pierced and tatted youth who admired my selections. The whole encounter was a delightful surprise and banished a LOT of stereotypes.

Psalm 96 also banishes stereotypes, as it admonishes Israel to "Sing a new song". It is a call to share the One True God with the Nations (Gentiles), and is an Old Testament anticipation of The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20).

Like many other Psalms, Psalm 96 is in two parts. Verses 1-6 are a call to the Nations to worship The One True God. There is a triple admonition to "Sing, Sing, and Sing". It is a new song, but an ancient, eternal Message.

Verses 7-13 hails the Glory of God throughout the earth. And why are we commanded to Proclaim His Salvation? It is because He is The One True God of ALL, not just His Chosen People.

And THAT will never go out of style.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

God Bless America!
