Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I have an uncanny sense of direction. Perhaps (unlike certain Massachusetts senators) my REAL Inuit and Mic'Mac ancestors bequeathed that gift to me. In any case, I never need GPS, and have been able to find my way in many other states and foreign countries with little trouble.

My dear late husband, though, had NO sense of direction whatsoever. He claimed that he got that from HIS ancestors, and joked that the reason Moses wandered for 40 years in the desert was that he was "Ashamed to ask for directions." Needless to say, whenever we went on a road trip, I rode point, and my "Biker Name", emblazoned on my helmet, was "SCOUT".

Psalm 95 is a Call to Worship, and seems to be the words of a Levite or priest exhorting the Congregation of Israel. Therefore, we can consider it a "Liturgical Psalm" although there is no subtitle to indicate this.

It has two parts:

The first part, Verses 1-5, is a call to worship the Lord of All Creation. He is also named "The Rock of My Salvation", which takes the Vastness of the Universe to the very personal soul of the individual. Verses 1-2 is the Call, and Verses3-5 gives us the reasons for Praising God:
1. He is above all others.
2. He is the Lord of the Universe.
3. He created it all.

The second half, Verses 6-11, are an exhortation to reverence and a warning against rebellion. We are the "sheep of His pasture". The sheep know the voice of their One True Shepherd.

The Psalmist called to mind the incident in Exodus 17,when the People rebelled against God and ended up wandering in the desert until the faithless generation all died out.
A journey that should have taken only a few months ended up lasting forty years!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

God Bless America!
