The wife of an Oregon man serving a 15-year prison sentence for sexually abusing the couples daughter has filed a $9.5 million lawsuit against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, saying a clergy member violated a promise of confidentiality by reporting her husband to authorities.

Christians certainly won't!
Does the Mormon religion oblige the wife to stand by her husband?
My apologies .... I thought that you were faulting the LDS Church for what this members desire to ‘stick with her husband at the expense of her child’ did.
Which frankly I find horifying!
My wife is a Medical Doctor ... and while I am an Engineer, I have been a stay-at-home Dad...
Maybe a better question for this LDS (Mormon member) would be ... does the Mormon Religion oblige a Husband to stand by his Wife?
In any case, the answer is that we are obliged to stand by God and do his will. We are also to support our respective spouses in righteousness and righteous endeavors.
I suspect that if this woman had told church authroities that she either approved or allowed the molestation of thier daughter, she would be excommunicated.
Now.... would that be the Christians that believe the fiction that God and Christ are the same person... and don’t rely on the Bible?
... or would that be those that believe that Almighty God was the Father of his Son Jesus Christ.
Please be specific. If it’s the first, then your in-luck, because without repentance you’ll get a chance to brush of your hymn book and sing praises for eternity in the heaven that you imagine. So get your singing voice tuned up.... because eternity is a long time .... and the God which you imagine must have a deep-need to hear you tell him how wonderful he is.
The rest of us will be doing God’s more important work.
What about if, after the fact, she found out about it, and then declined to report her husband to police?
Under LDS doctrine, would that be a punishable offense?
...you intimated that a LDS woman was required to stand by an LDS Man in the committing of a crime against their daughter, the government and against God.
... in 58 years of being LDS, I have never, NEVER, heard of such a disgusting thing!
Your suggestion is PATHETIC! And as far as I can tell, is based solely on your desire to spawn ‘Fake News, Fake LDS Beliefs’ ... stemming from religious hatred of people who are merely worship God the Father through his Son, Jesus Christ, differently than you do.
I don’t know the answer to your hypothetical question. If she was found to somehow be complicit, then very possibly yes.
The LDS Church teaches people to come unto Christ ... and is not an inquisition army into peoples personal sins. They (we) teach repentance as a way to remove spiritual obstacles that distance us from God to receive forgiveness.
Part of the ‘Restitution’ of repentance would be facing the law for our wrongdoings.
We are not just talking about a moral sin here but a felony.
in 58 years of being LDS, I have never, NEVER, heard of such a disgusting thing!
FRiend, by your own admission, you dont even know how many Mormon gods there are - nor how many heavenly mothers there are.
Maybe you need to read more??
In the resurrection, they stand side by side and hold dominion together. Every man who overcomes all things and is thereby entitled to inherit all things, receives power to bring up his wife to join him in the possession and enjoyment thereof (Mormon Doctrine Plain and Simple, 1888, p. 51).
Do you uphold your husband before God as your lord? What! my husband to be my lord? I ask, Can you get into the celestial kingdom without him? Have any of you been there? You will remember that you never got into the celestial kingdom without the aid of your husband. If you did, it was because your husband was away, and some one had to act proxy for him. No woman will get into the celestial kingdom, except her husband receives her, if she is worthy to have a husband; and if not, somebody will receive her as a servant (Journal of Discourses 5:291).
I agree that this Mormon teaching is disgusting.
Elsie, meant to ping you...
Can’t withstand a knowledgeable LDS member regarding your anti-mormon hatred and LDS Fake-News on your own?? Need help?
Hmmmm .... not surprising.
I just posted the proof that Mormonism teaches what you denied.
Again, you didnt know.
Please refer to LDS doctine ...
... your quoting a non-official book of private opinions and speculation which I have never heard of!
As I recall .... aren’t you Anglican? Do I have your permission to quote someone who wrote a book on your beliefs from 140 years ago and claim that that person is the ultimate authority of your beliefs?
If not .... your poster-child for hypocrisy.
FYI: Just because a member of my church has an opinion, speculation or authored a book .... Doesn’t Make it LDS Doctrine!
Your supposed proof is as thin as the Democrats ‘evidence’ used to impeach Trump.
Please let me know which Church you belong to .... so that I can scour 140 year old statements that a member of your church made so that I can claim that I know more about your beliefs than you do.
That’s a pretty slick game you play. I’m sure your able to fool a lot of people. (Your Fake News)
I am under the impression, though, that Mormons are not Trinitarian. (If I am wrong about that, please correct me. I don't claim to know much at all about Mormonism.)
Mandatory reporting laws concerning abused children outweighs any of that slimy bottom feeding attorney's posturing.
Did he create man to rape little kids and then lie about it? What level does that get you to? At ‘not-LDS’ we call that rape and child molestation - both crimes, both sins - well, for some of us. And spoiler alert?!?! have you died and come back, is that you Lazarus? I admire you faith, but not the company you choose to keep and defend.
As I recall .... arent you Anglican? Do I have your permission to quote someone who wrote a book on your beliefs from 140 years ago and claim that that person is the ultimate authority of your beliefs?
Not Anglican, but post away!
Please let me know which Church you belong to .... so that I can scour 140 year old statements that a member of your church made so that I can claim that I know more about your beliefs than you do.
My church has been posted on my profile for years. No secret.
Heck, you can find official statements of my church that are thousands of years old. Feel free to quote any!
