PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 1/8/2020
KING JAMES BIBLE | 1/8/2020 | PilgrimsProgress

“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (Proverbs 8:11 KJV).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (Proverbs 8:11 KJV).

“For wisdom is better than rubies,” sure it is, it will get you saved—both from hell and from this present evil world. “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (II Timothy 3:15 KJV). It will make thee wise unto salvation, which notice, has only one source for that salvation—faith in Jesus Christ and not works.

A man can live sumptuously in this world for 50, 60, 70 years like the rich man in Luke 16 and then die and perish in hell for all eternity—scream and holler for eternity—you think that is worth all the rubies in the world? Wisdom is better than rubies. If all you got in this life is salvation and a Bible eking by on spare rations—even if you starve to death—you are going to have riches untold in the heavenly city for all eternity. It’s too bad that the world can’t get a hold of this truth. We have a lot of physically fat rich people, what we need more of is spiritually fat Bible believers.

People have their eyes on this life, and the things of this world, and that includes some Christians—and don’t think twice about what will come in the next life.

“. . . all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it,” nothing can be compared to it. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (I Corinthians 2:9-10 KJV).

Christians are not to love the things of this world, but they do. And you know what? All those things they cherished in this world are going to burn. “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2 KJV). “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (I John 2:15-17 KJV). It’s all going to burn!

“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let’s read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let’s keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
