The Fulton Sheen Fiasco

Once again, FrancisChurch toys with the faithful

Under this lax and political pontificate, almost everything in the Church looks arbitrary and slipshod, including canonizations, which Pope Francis has been using to remake the Church in his own liberal image. He quickly canonized Óscar Romero, whose cause stalled under previous pontificates, and two liberal popes not known for any exceptional sanctity, John XXIII and Paul VI. He canonized Pope John Paul II too, but that was a fait accompli. As much as Pope Francis might have liked to stop it, he couldn’t. (Observers noted his dourness at the canonization ceremony.)

In his Peronista style, he has also thrown a few bones to semi-conservatives, such as the canonization of John Henry Newman and Junípero Serra. In November, the Vatican announced the beatification of the anti-communist, pre–Vatican II-ish Fulton Sheen, a move that seemed to fall into the same category — a sop to conservatives. But no sooner had that been given than Pope Francis took it back. Earlier this week, the Vatican suspended Sheen’s beatification, citing the concerns of certain unnamed American bishops.

What were those concerns? It is still not entirely clear. Salvatore Matano, the bishop from Rochester, Sheen’s old see, took his sweet time before releasing a shamefully vague statement in which he appeared to blame the suspension on New York’s attorney general, who, he speculated, might cite Sheen in her upcoming report on cover-ups in the Catholic Church.

Cool.

I can now "light up" Poop Francois, the Dancing Boy Of Islam, to my dear old mother.

She absolutely ADORES Fulton Sheen.

She won't like hearing that CommiePope is putting the kibosh on the beatification...

What happened to the miracle credited to Sheen ( stillborn boy cane to life)? Or is this now no longer of any interest? We certainly appreciated sheen’s broadcasts is about all I can say. ( and while we’re at it, when will the clergy say or do anything about Nancy pelousy’s channeling of millions and millions of our Tex dollars into her favorite baby- killing factories, or is this now also no longer of any interest to the Church?). Inconsistencies. Preach one way but behave another. Not the first time of course. Jesus obstructed his followers to listen and obey everything his fellow rabbis taught and preached because the rabbis sir on Moses seat and know what’s right, what God wants from each of us. But. He criticized the ones he knew then as being inadequately consistent with living what they preached. Aka: “hypocritical” appearing. Seems rather similar today in the Church too?

Oops. Obstructed NOT! Instructed YES. Sorry 😐 for typo. (It’s a miracle of sorts just how many errors my one little finger can make at a keyboard. Maybe I can get it canonized? Regrettably the rest of me wouldn’t qualify,,, 😎). Have happy day!

The name was something I had heard a few times but I had no idea who Fulton Sheen really was until about the time Billy Graham passed. Since then I've watched some of Sheen via YouTube.

An amazing man, and a true servant of God.

The beatification of Sheen would give a huge boost to the supporters of the traditional (tridentine) mass. It won’t happen under Bergoglio. That has been the cause (pardon the pun) of all these delays, obfuscations and legsl actions.

Sheen, like Newman, was an evolutionist. He was a Teilhardian as well (which Newman probably would have been).

Some "conservatives!"

I’m old enough to remember when “Is the Pope Catholic?” was a rhetorical question.
