Well, let’s open our Bibles back to Psalm 107. I wanted to redirect our thoughts away from our ongoing study of 2 Corinthians, because this is such a special weekend as we celebrate our time of thanksgiving, and I wanted to turn to the Word of God this morning and to a Psalm that is notably a Psalm summoning us to thankfulness. This is such a Psalm. Now this Psalm has a very special place in my heart for a very interesting reason. One Sunday not too many years ago I read this Psalm as I did this morning.

I didn’t realize how the reading of that Psalm would impact a young man who was sitting back in that section over there to my left and toward the back. I later came to understand that this Psalm just being read without comment was the turning point in his life...

Ol' John did a marvelous job here, beginning with the inspiring conversion story and continuing through his excellent exegesis of the four predicaments and their resolutions. My only minor criticisms (aside from the unrelated bone I have to pick with him) are (1) his restriction of our motivation to praise to a mere obligation, rather than also being a spontaneous and heartfelt manifestation of gratitude, and (2) a certain weakness in driving home the application into the listeners' predicaments.
