All the popes were elders.
The word in Greek is "presbyteroi," which comes down to us in English as "priest." (We don't use the Hebrew word for "Priest" because he Catholic priesthood does not derive from the Levitical or Temple priesthood, but rather from the priesthood of Melchizedek and even moreso, of Christ our One High Priest.)
They have also been (back in he beginning of their clerical service) been ordained as deacons, diakonoi
So you are right, they are elders, overseers (bishops)and servants (deacons).
So are all elders popes? Why did he not designate himself as head ELDER. Or POPE?
So what you are saying is that popes are on equal standing as all the other elders? Who would know which ELDER has the final say?
In just two posts, you have asked me 11 questions.
Dennis the Menace was not so annoying and he asked more intelligent questions.
I don’t think you know the answers to those questions. Prove me wrong if you can
You will find the answers to every question I asked you in your Bible. You do have a Bible don’t you?
Twelve questions now.
Keep it up, but don’t expect answers to questions asked in ill will.
Oh PLEASE. Lol! You sound a LOT like Adam Schiff. You SEEM to be a big old nothingburger of information.
Nothingburger?
How old are you?
2 questions asked in ill will.
You won’t answer the questions because you don’t SEEM to know the answers. But you SEEM to think you know all the answers to a everything.
And the answer to your second question is “Old enough to know a charlatan when I am in contact with one.”
Why then are you seeking answers from a "charlatan"?
Actually I started out with good faith toward you. That we could explore and answer those questions that should be very important to you in your religion. But within a few posts to you and reading your replies to eagleone I realized you really do not SEEM to be searching for truth. You SEEM to be just a other Bible bully with no true answers but loads of man made doctrines that you use to support your position. I’m not asking you these things for YOUR sake, you SEEM to have chosen your destiny already. Those are for anyone reading these posts. Who are TRULY searching for answers to God’s word and their salvation. You just SEEM to be the one MOST diametrically opposed to the truth in God’s word.
He may well be paving the way for that one
Was a good one.
This is the reply from Roman Catholics who disagree with the dogmatic statement made in Unam Sanctam as they don't want to be subject to their current pope.
you wrote-
Especially when they go around boasting all of their sins are forgiven.
I don't "boast" that all my sins are forgiven. While it is true, I give thanks and glory to God for what Jesus has done for me, having accomplished ("It is finished") what I could never have done for myself.
Catholics, on the other hand believe that their "works" will save them. You'll try, but this is an unarguably true. (I KNOW because I was bewitched by that church for a long time before God revealed the Truth to me and freed me from their demonic grip.)
Since "prots" believe God's Word and since you "dont care what you prots believe" - well, YOU do the logic.
So, because of this, I often direct "devout Catholics" to this:
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
...
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them. Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for The righteous shall live by faith.(Gal 3)
Pray, see if any of this sinks in, I won't react to your predictable response.
Just surprised that a number of devout Catholics quietly have not simply say “Not my Pope” in place.
Except for one, John, the beloved apostle.
Then all the disciples left Him and fled. Last sentence from Matthew 26:56
50And they all left Him and fled. Mark 14:50
It is true that John was there at the Cross.
But, at the moment of His arrest all the disciples fled.
Could it be because the letter was written later in Peter’s life before his martyrdom?
