Chance the Rapper Praises Kanye West's New Gospel Album 'Jesus Is King'

WASHINGTON – Grammy Award-winning Hip-Hop Artist Chance the Rapper praised Grammy Award Winner Kanye West's new gospel album "Jesus Is King."

When asked for his thoughts on West's latest album, which marks a change in musical direction for the hip-hop star, Chance replied, "It's awesome."

Rapper Pharoahe Monch, a Grammy-winning artist, shared his "authentic thoughts" about West's Christian-themed new album.

"I appreciate the harmonics. I grew up with Christian parents so I get the whole choir and I've always appreciated Kanye for pushing the envelope and his sound and he always takes chances -- that's what I've liked even from the very beginning," he said. "He's a master at sounds and that resonates with me and he's a master at harmonics and that resonates with me."

Monch continued, "I would think that the consensus is 'f*** Kanye' but, for me listening to the album, I was able to listen to it from the beginning to the end and I appreciated some of it. I'm not in love with it. I think it's dope."

When asked if his critical comment was due to West's support for President Trump, Monch replied, "No, as Pharoahe, f*** Kanye. As an album, I didn't feel that way. I feel some of these harmonics and I feel some of the musicality that's in the album and I've always appreciated Kanye for taking risks."

Dark greens and blues
Are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams?

And rock-a-bye sweet baby James.

FROM THE FEDERALIST

His message in “Closed on Sunday” (Chick-fil-A mentions excepted) is rich with the practical outworking of a Christian not being “conformed to this world” but instead being “transformed”:

Raise our sons, train them in the faith
Through temptations, make sure they’re wide awake
Follow Jesus, listen and obey
No more livin’ for the culture, we nobody’s slave
Stand up for my home
Even if I take this walk alone
I bow down to the King upon the throne
My life is His, I’m no longer my own.

Whether Kanye is truly a Christian or not is something only he and God know. But one thing we do know is that a person can’t be a Christian if he doesn’t believe and live by these simple truths.

That’s the problem with so many Christ-claiming celebrities: They don’t actually believe Jesus is King. It seems Kanye does.

The left has a clear strategy that’s easy to see. The more dangerous someone is the more they paint them as mentally ill.

I'm not in love with it. I think it's dope.

I thought something being "dope" meant one thought that thing was excellent and worthy of high praise??? Then again, I avoid rap and low-grade ghetto culture, so don't keep up with its etymology.

With no opinion on Kanye’s theology, I really like the new record. Beautiful music.

RE: I thought something being “dope” meant one thought that thing was excellent and worthy of high praise???

Dope is a rather new slang word that is used to define someone or something excellent, great, impressive. It was originally in African-American usage and chiefly among rap musicians and enthusiasts. However, you can hear it outside the rap realm nowadays.

“That’s dope” is like the older “that’s bad”, which means it’s good.

One of the songs on Jesus Is King is “Closed on Sunday.” It is actual music, as opposed to rap, and its lyrics have triggered lots of liberals:

Closed on Sunday, you’re my Chick-fil-A
Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A
Hold the selfies, put the ’Gram away
Get your family, y’all hold hands and pray
When you got daughters, always keep ’em safe
Watch out for vipers, don’t let them indoctrinate
Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A
You’re my number one, with the lemonade
Raise our sons, train them in the faith
Through temptations, make sure they’re wide awake
Follow Jesus, listen and obey
No more livin’ for the culture, we nobody’s slave

The Chick-fil-A reference has gotten the most attention; could there be a better ad for the chain? (By the way, the two best things you can order in a fast food restaurant, in my opinion, are the Chick-fil-A Deluxe and Spicy Deluxe.) More important, of course, is West’s declaration of independence from today’s liberal culture, which includes the Democratic Party. His pro-independence message coincides nicely with Candace Owens’s themes.

I doubt that Kanye’s conversion will turn out to be of earthshaking importance, but it is one more instance of African-Americans breaking free from the liberal plantation. The long-term consequences of this growing independence movement will be enormous, and I think we will see some early signs of it in next year’s election.

Here is “Closed On Sunday,” which I actually like. It has been viewed–or listened to, anyway–two and a half million times on YouTube.

Chance hosted SNL this weekend and closed the show thanking his lord and savior Jesus Christ. And not in a trite Hollywood way. Seemed genuine to me.
Also if you get a minute, YouTube Chance SNL E Sports. They place him as a broadcaster for a League of Legends tournament outside his normal comfort zone of covering basketball. He, like myself, had no idea what he was watching but was expected to be doing play by play lol. Reoccurring sketch for him. There’s another where they stick him at a hockey game for sideline coverage and he’s completely lost. Much as SNL stinks, those sketches are gold

I read your post but what is your point? No offense intended but I’m not sure what you intended to communicate.

Just realized when I added to the Kanye/Chance discussion I commented to your post directly circlecity, wasn’t my intent.

“The Chick-fil-A reference has gotten the most attention; could there be a better ad for the chain?”

And I’m guessing the owner of Chick-fil-A is thinking “See what being closed on Sunday does? What a great way of honoring God and bringing awareness to others. Even rappers!”

My kids for years have listened to Christian rappers. One of them was pretty good. Now there are even “screamo” Christian artists. There is one group that has screamo and regular songs. The regular songs are pretty good and the guy has a nice voice when he sings.
