'Please Leave': Why the Sydney Archbishop's Same-Sex Marriage Message has Anglicans Rattled

Glenn Davies’ blunt words come at a critical moment for Australian churches amid demands for religious freedom

For a man renowned for his civility, the language was blunt. During his annual speech to the Anglican Church’s Sydney synod, Archbishop Glenn Davies told supporters of same-sex marriage to “please leave us”.

“My own view is that if people wish to change the doctrine of our church, they should start a new church or join a church more aligned to their views,” he said. “But do not ruin the Anglican Church by abandoning the plain teaching of scripture.”

In a report published on the Sydney Anglicans website, Davies’s media manager, Russell Powell, said the archbishop had received a standing ovation at the end of his address – as indeed he had.

But in pockets of the hall, there was also discomfort, if not with the core sentiment then with the tone. Davies has long been frustrated by what he believes is the excessive liberalism or tolerance of other Australian bishops towards same-sex relationships, particularly among clergy.

Now he watches as two relatively small parts of the church – the dioceses of Wangaratta in Victoria and Newcastle in New South Wales – are moving to bless same-sex marriages.

“the plain teaching of scripture”

You mean, like, quit making it up, a/k/a “the Church of What’s Happening Now”?

Bravo to this gentleman.

“the plain teaching of scripture”

I like to ask people who say "Jesus never taught..." just what scripture do you think Jesus taught about in the synagogue? The Old Testament condemns the perverted lifestyle that the modern church opens its doors to. The Jesus of the Bible taught in the synagogue that it was an abomination.

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. John 21:25 KJV

That ending always pissed me off about John. He tells only 1 story about eating breakfast, and Peter feeding his sheep and that was the highlight of all the things he did after the resurrection?

Anglicanism has been fractured by its liberals, that dominate in the white western world. But its great majority is in mostly very conservative Africa.

When the Episcopalian Anglican church in the US had its schism, its conservative churches left and became African Missionary Anglican churches, becoming part of African dioceses. And instead of sending their money to the now leftist Episcopal churches, they sent it to Africa.

At the perfect time.

That is, in Africa, black Muslims are leaving Islam in droves and converting to Christianity. And this money is being immediately used to build dozens or hundreds of churches for them.

In turn, this makes the African Bishops and Archbishops very powerful. They now have four times the number of dioceses than exist in America.

FOUR times as many Anglican dioceses in Africa than in the USA? I’m doing my happy dance. Power to the Africans! Power to the Gospel!

In the US, the Episcopalians have 100. In Africa, the Anglicans have 400. I like to distinguish between the two branches, Episcopalian and Anglican, as the American “African Missionary Anglican” churches are very traditional and conservative and prospering; whereas the Episcopalians have gone both hard liberal and are dying out.

And yes, most of the African Anglican dioceses, as well as the African Catholic dioceses, and the African Evangelical churches, are all conservative and growing by leaps and bounds. They take their Christianity very seriously, and many of them are still being martyred for it by bloodthirsty Muslims.

Though Islam is slowly losing the fight as Saudi Arabia, which tracks such things, is shocked by the loss of so many black Muslims to conversion. (They do not recognize just ‘dropping out’ of Islam, so to quit they must convert to Christianity, so they can be out for good, despite putting a death penalty on their heads for doing so.)

Taking such a risk results is surprisingly strong Christians.

The same thing is happening with the United Methodists — after decades of grappling with their sexual revolutionaries, the upsurge of African Methodists is finally giving their International Conference a decisive majority of traditionalists demanding that the sexually unrepentant gather up and leave. It is a delicious irony that the Africans are freeing the slaves of p.c. liberalism.
