“Indulgences are a non-biblical false teaching of Rome.”
Protestantism is a non-biblical false teaching of Marty Luther. “I will not serve” is echoed in the very title “protestant”.
Nowhere in the New Testament does it say that the only authority for Christian piety is in the New Testament printed word. Yet the protestants will believe nothing unless they find it written there, showing that they themselves cling to “doctrines of men” in accepting only practices of piety that are found directly in the New Testament. Besides, by thus following a doctrine that isn’t printed in the New Testament they clearly don’t practice what they preach!
Regarding indulgences, recall that the prophet Nathan relayed to David that his grievous sins were forgiven yet restitution was due. In fact, the entire nation of Israel paid a price for his fall from grace even after he was forgiven. This is part of what has formed the Church’s mind on purgatory and indulgences.
Another thought to ponder is in St. Matthew Chapter 5 Verse 26:
[26] Amen I say to thee, thou shalt not go out from thence till thou repay the last farthing.
If you are getting out, is it not by the blood of Jesus? But lo, some restitution is still required. If you steal $5,000 but then regret it and repent, can Jesus’ blood cleanse you of it? Does Jesus likewise allow you to go your way without repaying the stolen money?
Are there consequences to actions? Yes. But David's soul was not "purified through fire" in purgatory.
Luther is living rent free in the mind of the Roman Catholic. They continue to mistakenly believe people are following Luther.
Here's a news flash....anyone can pick up the Bible and read the book of John and understand how to have a saving faith and relationship with God.
It's that simple.
[26] Amen I say to thee, thou shalt not go out from thence till thou repay the last farthing.
If you are getting out, is it not by the blood of Jesus?
The blood of Christ covers all sins....all of them.
But lo, some restitution is still required. If you steal $5,000 but then regret it and repent, can Jesus blood cleanse you of it?
The blood of Christ cleanses all sins...all of them.
Does Jesus likewise allow you to go your way without repaying the stolen money?
You should repay the money.
However, it may not be possible to depending on the person's situation in life. Maybe they were shot trying to flee with the money....maybe not.
In either case, the blood of Christ cleanses all sins...all of them.
“...pick up the Bible and read the book of John and understand how to have a saving faith and relationship with God...”
However, rebellion and disrespect for the authority that Jesus established is sinful and an indication of weak or non-existent faith.
Bold
Except He didnt set up the Roman Catholic Church. Im sure the EO would agree with that.
Wrong. Jesus gave His authority to Peter and the apostles and it has been accordingly authoritatively passed on, including that the seat of the Church become located in Rome.
