Just hazarding a guess here, but am thinking that the Chinese have used the oldest political leverage in the book to get control of the Chinese Church: bribery. The “Saint Gallen Mafia” needs money to finance their ambitions, and I think that is drying up from traditional sources.

Has he “sold it” or just plain GIVEN it to the ChiComs? He is becoming “a Judas” for our Chinese Catholic brethren and by extension, ALL the Christians in Communist China.
