Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning (Proverbs 9:9 KJV).
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser, in other words, when you go to teach somebody you need to see that there are some people in this world, Christians included, that you cant teach. They are not about to learn anything, and they are not about to change what they believe. You cant make them any wiser, for they are set in their waysthey have already been taughtand there is nothing that you can add to them.
True wisdom teaches you that you dont know everything, no matter how old you get in the Lord or not matter how deep you get in the Bible there is always something that you can learn.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser, see, that man is wise in the sense that he knows that he still has a lot to learn, and he knows that other people can teach him things if he will just listen.
. . . teach a just man, and he will increase in learning, notice that a wise man and a just man are alike. A just man in the Old Testament is a man that is living according to the Law. He has personal justification in that he is keeping the law. In the New Testament, that is not true. You are not just because you keep the Law, you are just because you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, the Just One. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24 KJV). Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him (Romans 5:9 KJV).
In the Old Testament, a just man is a man that keeps the Law, keeps the sacrifices, and does what God tells him to do. He has good works, and he also has faith, which a man would have to have in order to do what God tells him to do. In the New Testament, there are no works attached to it. It is entirely by grace, and it is entirely free. A just man is a man that does right.
Let’s read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let’s keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread!
If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
