“Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied” (Proverbs 27:20).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied” (Proverbs 27:20).

“Hell and destruction are never full,” the fires of hell are never satisfied.

“The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough: The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough” (Proverbs 30:15-16). There are some things that are never satisfied.

“All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing” (Ecclesiastes 1:8). You can’t satisfy the eye. You can’t satisfy the ear.

God can satisfy your spiritual eye, and your spiritual ear. In fact, Paul was able to say, “I am content.” You can’t satisfy the flesh, but you can satisfy the spiritual man. Jesus Christ said, “if you drink this water you'll never thirst again.” That’s the thing about spiritual things: they can satisfy.

When they talk about Coke satisfying and Pepsi satisfying, that’s a lie! You gotta buy a six pack. And when that’s gone you need a case, and now they even sell it with 36 cans. A fellow can drink through that in a couple of days and will want more. It doesn’t satisfy, or you could drink one can and never need another.

“Hell and destruction are never full,” well, hell is eternal, and it implies that hell is infinite in its ability to take in more. It is never fall. One passage in the Old Testament said that “hell hath enlarged itself” (Isaiah 5:14). That would be a natural reaction to being full. I mean, what happens when you keep throwing stuff in a fire? It gets bigger.

Let’s read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let’s keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread!

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
