I personally find the theology of transubstantiation unintelligible, not because I dont believe that the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ, but because I do not believe in prime matter, substantial forms, substance and accidents.
I dont think we have a clue what Jesus meant when he said, This is my body. I think we should humbly accept it as a mystery and not pretend we understand it.
In any case, Jesus did not say, This is my body. Adore me. He said, Take and eat. This is my body. Only in the early 20th century, with the encouragement of Pope Pius X, did receiving Communion again become common in the Catholic Church...

Warning: Jesuit theology ahead!

Heresy.
He should be counseled and if continues spreading heresy he should be excommunicated.
If he still will not relent, he must be removed from priestly orders.
Very simple what Jesus meant by this is my body & blood
The setting was a Jewish Passover dinner & he was declaring that he is the PASSOVER LAMB....the fulfillment of the type instituted by God at their historic exodus from Egypt.
He was actually fired as editor of America by Pope Benedict.

Obviously he has not relented from spreading heresy.
He should be excommunicated.
What was required, was that they understand that what they are receiving is Jesus, "God with them": that this is not mere bread and wine, but is Jesus Himself, who comes to live in them.
In other words, what is needed is that they respond to "This is My Body" in adoration, with a sincere, believing and loving "Amen."
It is not Aristotelian metaphysics which is an object of faith. Jesus is the Object of faith, and the Giver of faith, whether you are mentally retarded or a M. Div.
The rubrics of the Tridentine Rite recapitulate all of Old and New Testament theology. Understandably a NO educated priest might not clearly comprehend all that the Mass may encompass.
His reference to 13th century Mass not involving communion is nonsense. Excellent written sources dating to the 1st century AD document communion as part of the Christian services.
I would be interested in knowing if he has ever read the Baltimore or Robert Cardinal Bellarmine’s Catechisms description of transubstantiation.
In any event the Greek scriptures use of the word metousiosis to describe what happens during the Anaphora at the epiclesis makes very clear the change in substance the presence of the Holy Spirit induces. This change is the sacrifice Christ makes for each of us in reciprocation of each our sacrifice of ourselves in the receipt of Him at His Mass. In this reciprocity we receive of His divinity and grace for us each in the sacrifice of our own ego creations to Him.
Most importantly this sacrament, in the receipt of His Body we each accomplish our own metousiosis, the transformation of the substance of our own life (bios) to our Life (zoe) in Christ and in the Body of Christ , His church.
The Eucharist is the center of the Catholic Church because Jesus Christ is the center of Catholic life and worship. The Church still professes, as it has for two millennia, that the Eucharist is nothing less than Jesus Christ himself.
The Eucharist is a mystery like the Trinity. We may not fully understand the how, but as a matter of Catholic Faith, we believe in the Real Presence in the Eucharist.
Why does this Jesuit priest present his thoughts that are contrary to Catholic Faith? He presents his personal opinion without any basis. Does he just ignore the words of Jesus and St Paul (Corinthians 10:16-17)?
The Mass and the Sacraments were established by Jesus and delegated to the Apostles and their successors.
The Bible warned us this would happen. Paul told his young protégé, Timothy, For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths (2 Tim. 4:34).

Yes, the Jewish people were supposed to eat the Passover Lamb in order to save their lives. The blood of the Passover Lamb covered the doorways to protect them from the last plague that Moses spoke of.
Many years ago at Christmas, I heard a homily when I visited my hometown. The priest reminded us that Jesus was born in a manger. Manger is the French word meaning to eat in English. So not only did the animals eat from a manger, so are we to eat of Christs body and blood.
I read Scott Hahns The Lambs Supper many years ago. I think its about time I read it again.

I guess youve got me there.
