A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth (Proverbs 14:6).
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not, a scorner is that fellow that looks down his nose at everything. Nothing ever pleases a scorner. Nothing that anybody does is good enough, Well, it could be better. Now, it is true that the person doing the task is always striving to do better, but the scorner isnt interested in attaining higher quality; but only in tearing down the confidence of others.
Hes the fellow that has the opinion that everybody else owes him a living. Hes the fellow with the chip on his shoulder that believes that everybody is doing him wrong somehow. These are not pleasant people to be around. Because of his scornful heart, God isnt going to give him anythingthat is why he cant find wisdom.
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings (Jeremiah 17:10).
The scorner doesnt get wisdom because of his attitude. Our attitude needs to be that only God can teach us anything, and we need to be taught by Him because we dont know anything apart from Him. Paul said, Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise (I Corinthians 3:18).
A scorner does not see himself as lacking, he sees himself as a little bit better than anyone else. He isnt going to find wisdom. Obviously, when one knows it all already, he doesnt have any room for increased knowledge. In his case, knowledge puffeth up.
. . . but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth, understands what? That knowledge comes from God and you and I dont have it unless we get it from God, and we are humble enough to go to God and ask for it. We approach Him with an empty cup with the desire that He would fill it up.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5).
A scorner wouldnt think that he lacks wisdom. His cup is full . . . of himself.
Let’s read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let’s keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread!
If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
Amen.
Thanks for posting.
Thanks for another good post.
I try to approach Bible study with humility, and with good reason. It seems the more I learn the more overwhelming the vastness of the knowledge contained in the Holy Scriptures is shown to be.
I appreciate your thought provoking ideas on the Proverbs.
Amen!
